A Journey of Motivation

Have YOU ever felt like you’re stuck and can’t do the things you want to do?

How would it feel to be really proactive and get things done efficiently?

What is your biggest dream?

I’m asking you this because, reflecting on WHY your goal is significant to you is a great starting point. It’s essential to reconnect with what is meaningful to you. Values drive our actions, so delving into your values can help you access your motivation.

What if I’ve never stopped to think and imagine what the future might hold?

What do I want to do with my life or career?

These are questions that I’ve pondered myself or that friends have raised in social situations. Maybe your parents also ask you something similar every now and then, or even your partner or boss.

During my annual reviews with my boss over many years, I faced a familiar question: “What do you want to achieve next year, or what’s your dream role?” My response was always the same: “I don’t know.” My boss would explain that without understanding your own passions or interests, it was challenging to support your growth. Consequently, I stayed in the same position for more than ten years. If this scenario resonates with you, remember that you’re not alone. I also used to dream about starting a family, being in great shape, owning a house, and driving a fancy car. Now I understand that these things are not as important as simply wanting to be happy.

If you’re still here and I have your focus, just pause for a moment, be present, and stay open to life’s possibilities. This way, you can find meaning and purpose in your life without feeling pressured to stick to a set path. If you don’t have clear goals, that’s okay, you’re not alone, and you’re not making any mistakes. Just ponder for a moment on what do I want to do with my life?

It can be really frustrating, right? It might feel like everyone around you is figuring out their purpose and chasing their dreams while you’re still stuck on this basic question. Maybe the people in your life are also pushing you to make a decision, adding to your frustration. But here’s the thing you might be missing: the only purpose you need is to live your life. Seriously, that’s it. Despite what you’ve heard, you don’t need to find a passion to have a fulfilling life. Those who claim to have “found their purpose” often make it sound like they’ve got it all figured out and life is a breeze. I don’t usually say things like this, but as a life coach, nothing makes me happier than helping someone live a happy life. That’s what keeps me going.

Perhaps that is also what you are longing for, a touch of happiness, a sprinkle of assurance in the unpredictable adventure called life. Discovering passion or purpose seems to be the key for many, and that’s what you desire as well. However, life is inherently unpredictable and lacks a clear purpose. And that’s what makes it beautiful! You have the freedom to do whatever you please. You only have a short time on this Earth to fully embrace life in all its wonder. Passion can sometimes be a distraction, leading to self-doubt and frustration just like having no interests at all. The relentless pursuit of passion can often hinder people from truly savouring life.

So, how can you stay motivated to chase your dreams or get tasks done?

Here are some ways to help you get motivated to accomplish your goals:

Set goals: Define what you want to achieve.
Find your reasons: Understand WHY you want to achieve your goals.
Establish a routine: Create a daily schedule to stay focused.
Stay inspired: Surround yourself with sources of motivation, podcasts, books, uplifting people in your life.
Celebrate progress: Acknowledge your achievements, no matter how small.
Think positively: Focus on the good and be kind to yourself.
Imagine success: Picture yourself reaching your goals.

What truly matters is not always the what or the how, but the WHY, the reason behind your actions. Knowing WHY you’re doing something can motivate you to stay focused and keep moving forward. Explore the world. Connect with others. Lend a hand. Laugh. Love. Stay active. Inquire. Above all, understand yourself.

View life as a game where there are no winners or losers. Play with passion, give it your all, and enjoy every moment you have.

To keep your motivation high, aim to make it enjoyable. Fun can be a powerful ally in staying motivated. Cleaning can be challenging for example but try playing your favourite music or tuning into a podcast while tidying up your home.

It also comes down to your self-discipline. In my opinion, motivation endures when you have a realistic goal and the self-discipline to chase after it. Let’s face it, motivation can only carry you so far; eventually, you must push through with the end goal in sight.
