In today’s busy world, stress is something we all face. It can come from work, personal issues, or just everyday pressures. Here are some simple tips to help manage stress.

1) Start each day with mental exercises to maintain a healthy mindset. Allocate time for exercises and meditation, this can walking or being alone with your own thoughts with some relaxing music and take charge of your thoughts and emotions. Remember, positive thinking can significantly impact your mood and behaviour.

2) Aim for at least 40 minutes of cardio exercise every day. Begin gradually if needed and increase over time. Opt for walking whenever possible, like choosing to walk instead of driving. Exercise releases endorphins, which help alleviate stress.

3) Respect your body by adopting a healthy eating plan tailored to your needs. While eating may offer temporary relief from stress, avoid overeating, which can negatively affect confidence and self-esteem in the long run.

4) Recognize your stress symptoms and triggers. Stress hormones like adrenaline can trigger anxiety and panic attacks. Steer clear of substances that trigger adrenaline, such as coffee and tea in the afternoon, cigarettes, and alcohol. Also, limit caffeine intake as it can disrupt sleep and relaxation.

5) Establish a consistent bedtime routine and stick to it nightly. Keep a notepad or diary by your bedside to jot down worries or thoughts, giving yourself control over them and the ability to let them go. Avoid daytime naps after 2 pm and don’t fixate on the amount of sleep you believe you need. Trust that your body will regulate itself, as it typically only requires a minimum of four hours of sleep per night to function properly. Relax and ease the pressure off yourself.
